Main Line

Thanks to David Dawson for scanning the Logansport yard maps from his own collection. Some of these maps are rather faint. A rescanning may yet be accomplished; stay tuned.

For purposes of orientation, the reader may wish to consult my hand-drawn map of Logansport. The freight train schedules portion of this site also has a graphical representation of the comings and goings of scheduled PRR freight trains which may be of further interest.

Logansport Yard "A", Logansport, Ind.

This yard is along the main line coming in from Columbus, southeast of town, and south of the Wabash River.

Logansport Yard "B", Logansport, Ind.

1174x603, 25K, ?? dpi

This yard is next into town along the main line, but after the main line has crossed over to the north side of the Wabash River. The north part of the yard abuts the Wabash main line.

Logansport Yard "C", Logansport, Ind.

2358x1216, 29K, ?? dpi

Past the center of town is this yard, which begins just west of the major PRR junction point, VAN.

Logansport Yard "X", Logansport, Ind.

1181x616, 17K, ?? dpi

The only yard not on the main line, this yard is north and east of VAN tower, on the stretch of track before the South Bend Branch and Logansport Branch part company.

Effner Branch

Diverges from the Columbus--Chicago main line at VAN and proceeds due west.

TRIMMER JCT. [??], ?, Ind., M.P. ???

Divergence, northward, of an alternate approach to the Chicago main line.

Crossing of the PRR with the CI&L (Monon) main line from ?Michigan City to Louisville. The eponymous town of Monon is just north of this location. The same line crosses the PRR at Crawfordville (?Frankfort Branch), Limedale (St. Louis main), and Gosport (Vincennes Branch) before finally meeting the PRR again at New Albany, near Jeffersonville, Ind. / Louisville, Ky.

, Goodland, Ind., M.P. ???

, Effner, Ind., M.P. ???

Here Pennsy ownership ends (at the time of the map), and the rails become the property of the Toledo, Peoria & Western.
