Main Line

In leaving Philadelphia, the PRSL shore-bound passenger would have passed the following towers/interlockings in sequence. Since they officially remained PRR and not PRSL, they are found on the New York City main line and New York City branch pages.

ZOO
NORTH PHILADELPHIA
SHORE
JERSEY
COOPER

The PRSL proper then began at Vernon, just west of Haddonfield, where today the Atlantic City line begins to parallel the PATCO High Speed Line. [Don Miller, Jr.]

Junction of ex-PRR and ex-Reading lines. Telling which is which is left as an exercise to the reader. :-) (Look at the signals.)

[17] HAM, Hammonton, N.J.

1980x1051, 30K, 200 dpi
Clearly "HAM" is short for "Hammonton" and "EGG" for "Egg Harbor". Does anyone besides me think that it's a bit too much coincidence that "ham" and "egg" appear consecutively?

[18] EGG, Egg Harbor, N.J.

[16] GATE, TURF, Pomona, N.J.

Connection to the Atlantic City race track. Both names are related to the nearby racetrack. [Don Miller, Jr.]

[1] TIDE, ATLANTIC, Atlantic City, N.J.

3718x992, 65K, 200 dpi
Atlantic City, N.J., passenger station. This was a new facility, built by the PRSL just west of the previous ACRR/RDG station. Sold to the state in the early 1960s, converted into a bus depot. The tracks were pulled back to allow for the building of the AC Expressway. The new station was built from the ground up, Atlantic tower was placed on the east side of the bridge for interlocking and bridge tending. The original tower was torn down in the late 1970s or early 1980s. [most information, EJ Toal]

[4] GLASSBORO, Glassboro, N.J.

[ex-PRR] Diversion of the Bridgeton Secondary. A small town with a relatively large Manual Block interlocking, with some special conditions as noted at the bottom of the map.

[14] LANDIS, Vineland, N.J.

3564x1054, 65K, 200 dpi
[ex-PRR] Appears to be an automatic interlocking governing the crossing of the CRRNJ with the PRR.

Cape May Branch

The Cape May branch retained by the PRSL was the one formerly belonging to the Reading RR. The Pennsylvania RR branch to that same town paralleled the Reading at least in part; it was abandoned.

[ex-Reading] The main line that remained was ex-RDG, as was the branch into Wildwood. Notably, the distant signals seem to be notated as position-light, though the distants were semaphore signals. [Don Miller, Jr.]

[ex-Reading] Movable bridge over the Cape May Canal and end of the line into the town of Cape May proper.

Seashore Rd. is now Bennet's Crossing, and Mill Lane is now either Sandman Blvd. or Ferry Rd. [Don Miller]
