State controls the east end of the Harrisburg passenger station. In the PRR's glory days, this meant lots of passenger trains with lots of head-end switching -- and motive power changes. The Roy machine was added in the mid-1950s when the Columbia Branch was converted from Manual Block Rules to ABS. (As a footnote, another panel was added, to the immediate left of the Train Director's desk, for the remains of Harris, which were made part of State Interlocking.)
State maghine; the Roy machine and hot journal recorder are visible at the
right side. The office is situated in the east end of the passenger station,
on the station concourse level; the relay room is located behind the model
board; tracks are to the east (walk along the machine through the wall...)
State machine from the other end. The doorway in the back, behind the machine,
leads to the relay room and a stairway to the Power Director's office, which
is above the tower.
Another view of the State machine and model board, taken a few weeks before the
other photos -- the "Royalton Branch" (Conrail-speak) is still intact along the
top of the board. I think the occupancy lights are a real train, too, probably
TV22 destined for Baltimore.
Roy CTC machine. This machine is located to the immediate right
of the State Model 14 machine.
